Choosing the Right Countertop for Your Home
Countertops play a bigger role than most people realize. They’re used daily, they anchor the room visually, and they need to hold up to real-life wear—hot pans, spills, water, soap, and everything in between.
At HUGE Handyman, we’ve installed just about every type of countertop you can imagine. Whether it's part of a kitchen remodel, bathroom upgrade, or custom laundry build, here's what you should know before picking the right surface for your space.
Start With How You’ll Use It
We always ask clients a few key questions:
Is this a high-use area like a kitchen or just a guest bath?
Are you looking for something low-maintenance or do you mind occasional upkeep?
Do you want a bold statement piece, or something cleaner and more neutral?
These answers help us recommend materials that match both your lifestyle and your look.
Most Common Countertop Materials We Install
Quartz
Durable, modern, and non-porous. It resists stains and doesn’t need sealing—great for families or anyone who wants a worry-free surface. Available in tons of colors and patterns, including marble-look finishes.
Granite
Natural stone with unique character and movement. Scratch- and heat-resistant, but it does require sealing to prevent staining. Ideal for kitchens where you want both performance and style.
Butcher Block
Brings warmth and texture to a room. Can be used as a full countertop or an accent island. Needs to be oiled regularly and isn’t ideal for areas with a lot of water, but it creates a great natural vibe when maintained.
Laminate
Cost-effective and available in a wide variety of patterns. Not as durable or high-end as quartz or stone, but perfect for rentals, laundry rooms, or budget-friendly upgrades.
Marble
Elegant and classic, but high maintenance. Prone to stains and etching from acidic foods and cleaners. We recommend this for vanities or areas where function isn’t as demanding.
Concrete
Custom poured for a one-of-a-kind look. Can be tinted, textured, and shaped—but needs sealing and time to cure properly. Works well in modern or industrial-style homes.
